Originally named the Graphics Group, the company had been the computer graphics division of Lucasfim. Since its employees aimed to create a computer animated feature, Lucasfilm sold the company to Jobs for $5 million. The other $5 million was put directly into Pixar, which installed Jobs as the studio's CEO.
