To film scenes for the HMS Providence, forty members of the San Diego Maritime Museum sailed the HMS Surprise to San Pedro, California. The museum employees and volunteers appear as the Providence's crew, featured in several scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
