Kingdom Hearts 3D - Dream Drop Distance - North American Release

On July 31, 2012, Square-Enix and Disney Interactive officially release Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance to keyblade fans in North America. Created for the Nintendo 3DS, Dream Drop Distance is the seventh installment in the wildly popular Kingdom Hearts series, which team Disney characters with heroes from Square-Enix's Final Fantasy RPG titles.

Sora and Riku return as the game's main characters, continuing the storyline set in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. The duo must prepare for the return of the Xenahort, as the heartless villain aims to re-establish Organization XIII.

For Disney fans, Kingdom Hearts 3D will feature new worlds based on Walt Disney's Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers (2004), and TRON: Legacy (2010). Mickey Mouse returns with Donald and Goofy, topping the long list of Disney characters who appear in the new game. Although Disney is prominently featured, Square-Enix has chosen to omit most of its Final Fantasy characters from Dream Drop Distance, with only one moogle appearing in the storyline.

Originally released in Japan on March 29, 2012, North Americans have had to wait several months for their regional release. However, Square-Enix presented glimpses of Kingdom Hearts 3D at E3 (June 5-7, 2012) and the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International (July 12-15).

To make up for the long wait, Square-Enix will offer North American gamers a chance to acquire special content exclusive to the region. Gameplay will be identical to earlier releases (from regions like Japan & Australia), but the limited edition Mark of Mastery set sold in North America, bundles the game along with featured artwork, a Kingdom Hearts Nintendo 3DS case and the ability to unlock bonus content, including special Dream Eaters.

Hidden Mickey Monday ºoº - Radiator Springs Racers - Cacti Hidden Mickey

Three Cacti create a Classic Hidden Mickey - Radiator Springs Racers Queue - Cars Land

There are dozens of Hidden Mickeys scattered throughout the all-new Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park. There are also dozens of desert plants that accentuate Route 66's Southwestern motifs, including the round Golden Barrel Cactus, jokingly called the Mother-in-Law's cushion.

Hidden in the desert-themed extended queue for Radiator Springs Racers is a grouping of three spherical barrel cacti. The cactus Hidden Mickey has been placed near the base of an old road sign, visible along the queue's railing. Planted close together, the obvious proportions create a Classic Mickey.

Happy 57th Birthday Disneyland!

Walt Disney's Dedicates Disneyland - July 17, 1955

At 2:30pm on July 17, 1955, Disneyland's gates opened, welcoming guests into the theme park for the first time. ABC broadcast the historic event with a LIVE telecast and at 4:43pm, a 57 year-old Walt Disney delivered his famed dedication.

"To all who come to this happy place... Welcome! Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."

Dedication Day was initially conceived as an International Press Review for media, celebrities and invited guests. However, brand new Cast Members in a brand new park were overrun, as more than 28,000 people attended the unofficial opening. Counterfeit tickets and passes allowed an estimated 12,000-14,000 people to crash the private Sunday event.

On Disneyland's official opening day, July 18th, Cast Members welcomed approximately 50,000 guests to the Anaheim park. Walt's brother, Roy O. Disney, symbolically purchased Disneyland's first ticket, celebrating the success shared since moving to California in the 1920's.

From the Walt Disney Archives, Dave Smith presents Disneyland Ticket #1 purchased by Roy E. Disney in 1955 for one dollar.

When Disneyland opened in 1955, Disney didn't know if his theme park would be a success. The first year of operation, Disneyland drew more than a million guests to Anaheim, California. In 1956, attendance jumped to 4 million guests. After 57 years Disneyland boasts an annual attendance of nearly 16 million, following Walt Disney World as the second most visited theme park in the world.

Although more people visit the resort in Orlando, the original Disneyland remains the only place where guests can walk in Walt's footsteps and experience the magic Disney crafted firsthand.
