The Princess and the Frog {Easter Eggs}

As most Disney fans know, the Princess and the Frog was released on Disney DVD and Blu-ray, Tuesday, March 16th. It's also offered in a three disc Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo - available at Amazon!

Since Easter is just around the corner we thought we'd share some "Easter Eggs" or hidden secrets in the movie with you!

  • A bit after the movie begins (while the title song "Down in New Orleans" is playing), look for the Magic Carpet from Aladdin being shaken out on a balcony.
  • As Mama Odie is digging through some objects (while singing "Dig a Little Deeper") the magic lamp from Aladdin is one of the items tossed aside.
  • During the Mardi Gras parade scene, look for a float with a head that looks like King Triton from The Little Mermaid.
  • Riding on the King Triton Mardi Gras parade float are caricatured versions of John Musker and Ron Clements, the directors of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog.
  • Towards the end of the movie, the jazz band Louis is playing with at Tiana's restaurant is named "The Firefly Five plus Lou." This is a nod to the "Firehouse Five Plus Two" ragtime band from the 40's and 50's made up of Disney Animation employees -- including Disney Legends Harper Goff, Ward Kimball and Frank Thomas! Though most of the original members have passed, the band is still active and continues to play at Disneyland.

And finally here is a picture of Louis with swap grass on his head. A pose that pays homage to the marvelous Madame Mim from The Sword in the Stone!

If you've found any other secrets in this film please feel free to share them in the comments below! ºoº

When Naveen (as a frog) is a holding the fairy tale book on the night stand there are some pearls that form a Micky head in the background.

When the cards are being read for Naveen, the 'money' card has an image of gold coins - three are interlinked to create a Hidden Mickey!

I am not 100% percent sure if this is an intentional reference, but at 'Daddy La Bouff's' party in the beginning, when he sets his dog 'Stella' on the frogs he yells, "STELLA!!!" which is the most memorable line from the movie 'Streetcar named Desire' starring the beautiful 'Marlon Brando'

During the masquerade ball, there is a couple that dances across the screen. They are dressed as Princess Jasmine and Prince Ali (Aladdin).

When they are singing when I'm human. Right before Naveen goes to throw the flowers, there are 3 flowers that are a hidden mickey if you look carefully. (The orange flowers)

Thanks Katy, we'll take another look at the movie. We've also got to get a screenshot of Dr. Facilier's creepy wallpaper.

There's Arial laying at the table talking to someone across from her when Tiana and Naveen are escaping as frogs and being chased by Stella.

Also Meeko is the raccoon at the swamp.

I think her necklace quite resembles Pocahontas' mothers that was broken and remade in the film. Not entirely sure that qualifies it as an Easter Egg though. c:

The picture Tiana kisses of her daddy in his uniform looks just like the character Sweet in Alantis.

I just finished watching it again and noticed a few mentioned things, but also at the very end of the film I'm wondering if anyone has noticed that when they kiss on the balcony at the end, and the camera pans to the stars, the fireflies make a shape around the stars of Ray and evangelise that looks like a boat or something, still trying to figure out what the shape is. Then afterwards when the screen goes black there is drops of water making Mickey Mouse heads in the water just before the credits start to roll.

But would love someone to enlighten me on what the shape is thank you.

It appears, when the movie begins with Tiana and Charlotte listening Tiana's mom reading a book to them, that Charlotte's bedroom shelf is full of Disney princess dolls. It's hard to tell, but the way the dresses are colored that it could be Belle and Aurora for sure, but it appears that all of the princess could be there too.

On the king triton parade you also see a mermaid that looks like one of ariel (the little mermaids) sisters with her hair down :)

During the song during the credits, they go past a little shack with a rocking chair and then down a waterfall. It's just like the shack in the bayou in the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and the first drop in the ride.

The float following the King Triton float features Jafar from Aladdin.

The three musicians in costume that approach louis on the boat are dressed like african animals that look suspiciously like Simba and some of the other animals from The Lion King.

Is it me or in the scene where Ray becomes a star Shining Bright next to Evangeline do the to start look like the two stars in Peter Pan (the star and the second star to the right) only slightly closer together. Dunno if is counts.

I also feel a bit of deja vu when Tiana and Naveen get married in the church. They run out under the swords being raised. Remind you of a very memorable marriage scene from a classic Disney princess movie? Cinderella!!!

Remind you of a very memorable marriage scene from a classic Disney princess movie? Cinderella!!! It also is very Cinderella-esque when fake Naveen and Charlotte La Bouff are dancing at her Mardi Gras ball, with them being the only dancers, spinning with a spot light. And as a side note, those are definitely the Neverland stars from Peter Pan. Those are very recognizable, spotted those right away :)
